Book Review: FALLEN by Lauren Kate

This will be a really short review, because I just couldn't get into this book the way I did with most books.
This had a clumsy beginning, middle, and the ending made me cry! Still don't know what's going on. Confusing. Strange book.

Lauren Kate's "Fallen" in a nutshell:
There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce – he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, FALLEN is a page-turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

Good news: I finally finished it! Haha no, but seriously, there were some ok parts, like when Daniel finally told Luce what he was. I also liked the friendships between Luce and Arriane, and Luce and Penn. I liked Penn most of all because as a friend, she stuck with Luce when she needed her the most.

Bad news: I didn't like the progression from the beginning to the middle, and the middle itself. Daniel bothered me when he stuck the middle finger at Luce at the first meeting, and when he lured Luce over for that first swim behind the school and just left her there. He was too aloof and mean, to the point where I wanted Luce to have nothing to do with him. But, being a "teenager in love", she just couldn't stay away for very long. The ending ws so confusing; I didn't know how Arriane got there, with powers, supposedly she'd had them all along.

SPOILER!!! When Penn got killed by Miss Sophie, I cried my eyes out because I wasn't expecting her to get killed off. Being Luce's helper in her research to find out what Daniel was, I enjoyed her weird quirks and company. She didn't deserve to get killed off like that--by someone who Luce thought she could trust. It was really sweet of Daniel and Luce to make sure Penn was buried next to her father. That part put Penn's memory in place for me.

So this book wasn't all bad, but the only thing I liked about it was the ending. I wouldn't catch myself reading the rest of the series right away, but if I run out of other books to read, I'll catch up with them eventually.
Check out the book HERE.
