TOP TEN TUESDAY #19: Fall TBR List

Hosted by Jamie, Jana and Lauren of BrokeandBookish.com, Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that presents top ten lists on Tuesdays that promotes favorite bookish themes.

This week's theme:

September 27: Books On My Fall TBR List

Easy enough!! So without further ado, here are some books I want to read in the fall:

10. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

10798416

I first had heard of this book from Lisa of @lostinlit_lisa on Instagram, for her and her sister-in-law Becca's photo challenge, #LilBookishSeptember. I believe in love (or at least attraction) at first sight, so I hope this book is believable.

9. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

18692431

I've heard so much about this book, both from big and smaller Booktubers. And is it just me or does the main character sound like she has some form of mental illness or autism or something like that? How allergic do you have to be to be allergic to everything? Not being rude, just asking questions to people who have read it.

8. Leave Me by Gayle Forman

I just found this book on NetGalley, and I immediately requested it! I liked Gayle's first book, If I Stay, so I hope this new one is good too.

7. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

23437156

6. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

77203

5. Black Iris by Leah Raeder

18829666

4. Signs of Attraction by Laura Brown

29863612

I heard of this book from #DiverseAThon last week, and thought it sounded interesting. Also, I've always found American Sign Language (ASL) so fascinating. I'm a Level 1 signer, so I want to read more books and become more educated in deaf culture, even though I'm hearing.

3. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

27774758

I almost was going to read this last month for my Meetup Book Club, but I had to bow out last minute. But I hope I get to read it this month! Also another book recommended from #DiverseAThon last week.

2. Under a Million Stars by Rita Branches

30049032

I almost requested this on YA Bound Book Tours, but my schedule is too full in November to say yes. But I hope I can squeeze this into the fall TBR somewhere because it sounds like a good read.

1. The Keeper by Ingrid Seymour

22725828

"For fans of The Mortal Instruments series." You got me sold already, Ingrid!! I already loved her first book, Ignite the Shadows, so I know I'll love this one too!!

What are some of the books you're excited to read in the Fall? Leave comments below!

#T5W TOP 5 WEDNESDAYS (September 21): Characters You WOULDN'T Want to Trade Places With

Hey guys! This is a new feature I joined from Goodreads' Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.

Created by Lainey from GingerReadsLainey and now hosted by Samantha from ThoughtsonTomes, this week's entry describes the top 5 characters I'd wouldn't want be like. I wouldn't want their life!! I'm not about that life!! (Ok I'm so corny, I'm so sorry LOL let's get into this list!!)

5. Harry Potter

Image result for harry potter characters

I wouldn't want to live in a cupboard, battle dragons, fight Voldemort to the death, and deal with Dementors!!

4. Katniss Everdeen from 'The Hunger Games'

Image result for hunger games katniss

I can't fight or battle to save my life, and I'd probably suck at archery, so I wouldn't want to be Katniss.

3. Mia from 'If I Stay'

Image result for if i stay mia cello

I live for my family, so I'd probably be depressed and live in a cage for the rest of my life if I lost my family in a car accident like Mia did.

2. Tris Prior from 'Divergent'

Image result for divergent tris

Again, I can't fight to save my life, so I'd be terrible living in Tris' Dauntless group. I'd want to be in Divergent, but they don't have a group of their own lol.

1. Alice Howland from 'Still Alice'

Image result for still alice

Alzheimer's Disease runs in my family, so I'm already afraid I'll be in Alice's shoes one way or another. And it terrifies me that one day, I'll slowly lose the memories that I've worked hard to keep.

TOP TEN TUESDAY #18: Favorite Female-Fronted Bands!!

Hosted by Jamie, Jana and Lauren of BrokeandBookish.com, Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that presents top ten lists on Tuesdays that promotes favorite bookish themes.

This week's theme:

September 20: All About Audio freebie --  aka top ten audiobooks you should listen to, 10 books I want to listen to on audio,10 bands you should check out, 10 podcasts you should be listening to, 10 of my all time favorite albums, 10 songs I love, really whatever you can come up with.

Since it's a variety of audio things I can come up with, and I'm such a rock-band geek, I'll use the prompt "7 female-fronted Bands You Should Check out".

8. Flyleaf

Image result for flyleaf
Flyleaf 2004-2012 left to right: Jared (guitar), Pat (bass), Lacey (screams/vocals), Sameer (lead guitar), James (drums)

Image result for flyleaf kristen may
Flyleaf 2012-2016: Jared (guitar), Sameer (lead guitar), Kristen (vocals/keyboards), Pat (bass), James (drums)

This band has been through so much stress lol. I love their music, though. When their first lead singer Lacey Sturm came on the scene with Sameer, Pat, Jared and James in 2004, I fell in love with the way they merged their Christian faith with heavy, deep rock music. Then when Lacey left in 2012 and Kristen May stepped in as lead vocalist, I felt a little disheartened, but I gave her a chance. She was already being slandered by keyboard music experts (aka haters), so I wanted to give her a chance. And she was great! Great vocals, great look, lover of God, she made the band into a more calmer, mature look and sound. Their last album, Between the Stars, was really good. It wasn't like their previous albums, but it was a good kind of different.

Now that Kristen is gone, I don't know what the guys will do next. Last I checked, they were working on new music, but without a vocalist, how far will they get? We'll see!

Best songs: "I'm So Sick" ; "All Around Me" ; "Fully Alive" ; "Again" ; "Cassie" ; "Missing"

7. Against the Current

Image result for against the current
Against the Current 2011-present: Chrissy (lead vocals), Will (drums), Dan (guitar)

I don't know much about this band, to be honest. I only started listening to them a couple of years ago when they did covers on Youtube with my faves Kurt Hugo Schnieder and Sam Tsui. But I like their Infinity EP, and their debut album In Our Bones.

Best songs: "Gravity" ; "Running with the Wild Things" ; "Paralyzed" ; "Wasteland" ; "Ain't It Fun" (Paramore cover)

6. We Are the In Crowd

Image result for we are the in crowd
We Are the In Crowd 2009-hiatus: Cameron (lead guitar/vocals);  Mike (bass); Taylor [Tay] (lead vocals/keyboards); Rob (drums);  Jordan (rhythm guitar/vocals)

I actually heard of WATIC from a Twitter friend who is no longer on Twitter lol. But I really liked the band's second album, Weird Kids, and I've been hooked on them ever since. Tay and Jordan's vocal duo on a lot of tracks make their chemistry sizzle in their music. The band are on hiatus now, but I wish they'd come back soon.

Best songs: "Never Be What You Want" ; "The Best Thing" ; "Kiss Me Again" ; "Exits and Entrances" ; "Long Live the Kids" ; "Rumor Mill"

5. Hey Monday

Image result for hey monday
Hey Monday 2008-2011: Alex (rhythm guitar/vocals); Patrick (drums); Cassadee (lead vocals); Micheal [Jersey] (bass); Mike (lead guitar)

I loved this band growing up, especially in high school. I found their songs "Homecoming", "How You Love Me Now" on Youtube, and I liked their cool, beachy carefree vibe in their music. Since lead singer Cassadee Pope is now a country music star now, with a successful solo debut album Frame by Frame, and a cute new Summer EP, I don't think HM will be getting together anytime soon. It's sad but I think it's for the best. I'll just enjoy the throwback tracks on Pandora and Spotify.

Best Songs: "Homecoming" ; "Candles" ; "How You Love Me Now" ; "WonderGirl"

4. Tonight Alive

Image result for tonight alive 2015
Tonight Alive 2008-present: Whakaio (lead guitar); Cam (bass); Jenna (lead vocals); Jake (rhythm guitar); Matt (drums)

I've adored this band since their cover of Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man" on Pop Goes Punk vol. 4. Then I checked out their second album, The Other Side, completely overplayed the mess out of it, then went on to check out their first album, What are You So Scared Of? and that's when I knew I loved them!! They, like Hey Monday, have a carefree, beachy vibe to their music, but they are more solid in their sound than HM.

But then their third album, Limitless, was where I lost them lol. Like I'm still a fan of them, but that album was all over the place. All the techno-pop-rock songs and lyrics on oxygen and energy and the stars....what? lol It just didn't make much sense. But I like a lot of songs from that album, so I'll stick with them for awhile.

Best songs: "Lonely Girl" ; "What Are You So Scared Of?" ; "The Ocean" ; "Bathwater" ; "Human Interaction" ; "Listening" ; "Breaking and Entering"; "Wasting Away" ; "The Edge" from The Amazing Spider-Man 2

3. Evanescence

Image result for evanescence members
Evanescence 1995-present??: John (rhythm guitar); Amy (lead vocals/piano); Terry (lead guitar); Rocky (drums); Tim (bass)

I added a question mark to this band, because they say they didn't break up, they're actually on tour, but they haven't released new music in forever. In any case, I'm glad they haven't broken up lol.

Best songs: "Call Me When You're Sober", "What You Want", "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal"

2. TeraBrite

Image result for terabrite 2015
TeraBrite 2009-present: Sabrina (lead vocals); DJ (drums/lead guitar/vocals/bass/everything instrumental!!)

I got into this cool, awesome "2-piece band living in Youtube land", in 2011, right when Hey Monday broke up and Paramore were on a break from losing their lead guitarist and drummer Josh and Zac. I was pretty music-deprived, and so glad that TeraBrite's cover of Taylor Swift's "Safe and Sound" came into my Youtube feed. And I've been a member of Team TeraBrite ever since!!

And Sabrina and DJ are together in real life, so it only makes my shipper heart even bigger!! [I usually don't ship real people, but if you make cool music with your man, then you're amazing in my eyes!!]

Best (original) songs: "When It Happens" ft. Taking the Name ; "In Honor of Her Heart" ; "No One Knows" ; "Decisions" ; "My Own Path"

Best cover songs: Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion" ; 10 Female Fronted Bands Impressions ; I See Stars' "Running with Scissors" ; Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean" ; Demi Lovato's "Cool for the Summer"

1. Paramore

Image result for paramore 2016
Paramore 2004-present: Taylor (lead guitar); Hayley (lead vocals/keyboards)

This band. What can I say about this band that won't make me sound like a crazy, obsessed lunatic who needs to be put in an asylum? Can I say how much this band's music has saved my life? Can I say how starstruck I was when I first saw their "Misery Business" video in summer 2007? Can I say that I know all of their music, and I mean ALL of their music, including their 2004 demos, four albums, Hayley's solo project works with B.o.B. and Zedd?

Is it possible to say that I almost passed out when I saw them live for the first time on the Writing the Future tour last year in Atlantic City? Should I say that it's better now that their 5-piece band has now gone down to the two closest friends and bandmates in their careers?

Should I say that I've had another blog dedicated to their music and travels since 2013, Paramore RK Life?

Could I say how excited I am that, out of all of the bands I love and adore, Paramore are my heart and soul, and I can't wait for their next album?

I just did!! ;)

Best songs: "Misery Business" ; "Born for This" ; "Pressure" ; "All We Know" ; "Conspiracy" ; "We are Broken" ; "Ignorance" ; "Brick by Boring Brick" ; "All I Wanted" ; "Ain't It Fun" ; "Still Into You" ; "Decode" from Twilight soundtrack ; "The Only Exception" ; "That's What You Get" ; "Let the Flames Begin" ; "Part II" ; "Careful" ; "crushcrushcrush"

So those are my top 8 favorite female-fronted bands. What are some of your favorite bands of all time? Leave comments below!

#T5W TOP 5 WEDNESDAYS (September 14): Books You Want to See as Movies

Hey guys! This is a new feature I joined from Goodreads' Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.

Created by Lainey from GingerReadsLainey and now hosted by Samantha from ThoughtsonTomes, this week's entry describes the top 5 books I'd want to see as television shows. I've done a topic similar to this on Instagram for Lisa and Becca's #LilBookishJuly, so I'll use those books and add four more of my own.

September 14: Books You Want to See as TV Shows
--With fall TV season starting up, this seems relevant.

Since I read books that would make good movies, not television shows, I decided to do that as a list post instead. Hopefully this topic won't come up in the future, but if it does, oh well lol!

SYFY or FX

5. Running in the Dark by Inger Iversen

14290451

I think this book would make a cool mini-series, along with the sequel, Sinners in the Dark.

4. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

2800905

Lifetime

3. Under My Skin by Laura Diamond

29080076

I think this would make a really sad, devastating, honest Lifetime movie. Liz Gilles and Sam Claflin could play Darby and Adam.

2. How to Be Cool by Annie Carr

29423234

Another chance for Lifetime to turn a love-drama book into a movie.

1. Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson

25225860

The comedy-drama-romance between Jared and April alone should be on the small screen.

TOP TEN TUESDAY #17: Favorite Books of ALL TIME!!

Hosted by Jamie, Jana and Lauren of BrokeandBookish.com, Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that presents top ten lists on Tuesdays that promotes favorite bookish themes.

This week's theme:

September 13: Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Books Of X Genre (I know, I know. Picking all time faves. I'm MEAN. But I like knowing people's definitive faves). Can also break it down into sub-genre if that helps?

Of ALL TIME?! This list is so difficult, but I'll push it through!!

10. The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

Image result for the hunger games book

I read the books before the movies, but re-reading them really made me love them even more!

9. Running in the Dark by Inger Iversen

14290451

This book was my first experience with a strong, black female protagonist, and reading this has always made me feel less alone in a world where diversity isn't shown as much. It had a serious impact on me as a book-lover.

8. Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson

25225860

I just got an amazing care package from Sheena last night, with a ton of autographed bookmarks, a signed paperback copy, pens, mini-posters and more for this series!! And I caught myself re-reading my favorite parts from the first book, Discovering April, and everytime I re-read it, I always know where to find the best parts. I'm still reading book 2, Uncovering Officer Smith, but seeing April and Jared again brought so many feels!!

7. Anomaly by Tonya Kuper

20559783

I know I talk about this book too much, but I don't care!! I love it, I love Tonya, I love Josie's weird, quirky geek-girl-ness, I love Reid's badassness, I love their romance/friendship, I love Pushing and Retracting as a science instead of just a magic trick, I love this book. July 2017 is too far away for Book 2, Enigma.

6. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

11870085

I've seen the movie so many times, but it was the book that captured my heart first. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort did Hazel Grace and Augustus justice. John's writing is so complex but sensitive at the same time.

5. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

862041

This will always be my utmost favorite book series of all time!! I didn't start reading them until high school, but the fantastic story of friendship, love, bravery, and adventure will never die.

4. The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

41865

Another one that will be my favorite of all time is Twilight. I got introduced to this story the summer right before high school, and I never looked back since. The first book brought me into the YA community and I'll forever be grateful. Love or hate them, Edward and Bella make a cute couple.
