Hosted by Jamie, Jana and Lauren of BrokeandBookish.com, Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that presents top ten lists on Tuesdays that promotes favorite bookish themes.
This week's theme:
October 4: All About The Villains -- I don't think we've done a villains topic since back in November 2010 so let's revisit: top ten favorite/most compelling villains in books, top ten of the most vile villains/bad guys in books, top ten villains I secretly (or not so secretly) love, favorite tv villains, favorite comic book villains, ten "villains" of contemporary lit.
All about the baddies this week, so let's get to it!!
10. President Snow from The Hunger Games
This man is pure evil!! First, he assesses many children to enter the Hunger Games as a way to prove how big and bad he and his Capitol squad are. But when Katniss screws up his plans, he plans to put her back in the Games a second time, gets into her head, forces her to marry Peeta and have 2 children with him, his minions and mutthounds kill beloved Finnick and Katniss' baby sister Prim!! This man is freaking evil, and you can't tell me otherwise!!
9. Dr. Shaw from Under My Skin
I actually couldn't tell is Dr. Shaw was a villian or not. In some cases, she had gotten under Adam's skin and made him take so many anti-depressants that they had made him want to kill himself even more. But then, when she was with Darby, she was kind and listened to her. Even when she had explained herself in the end of the book, her methods were so strange and almost diabolical.
8. Peter Pan in Wendy Darling: Stars
This may be surprising to those who haven't read the book, but Peter Pan is actually the villian, not Captain Hook!! In fact, Hook is barely in the first book!! Peter is so manipulative, destructive, cocky, violent, misogynistic, jealous, disgusting human being, and I counted down the pages until poor Wendy and her brother Michael got out of Peter's island to go back home. I haven't read the second book, Seas, yet, but I'm hoping Hook helps the Darlings get back home and away from Peter forever.
7. Vince from Fractured
Vince was an explosive, destructive, manipulative a-hole who kidnapped both McKenna and her best friend Amelia "Millie" to get revenge on Millie's older MMA-fighting champion brother Dalton "The Detonator" Taylor. The book has more villians than just Vince, but he's the crux of it all.
6. Santos from Anomaly
I wouldn't necessarily call Santos a full villain because he was Reid's best friend in the beginning of the book. But then again, I think the best villains are the ones you'd never expect to become one, even your best friend.
5. Lucifer (Luce) from Extinguish
Luce got on my nerves so much in this book lol!! He was so slimy, cunning, almost like a politician. He never seemed stable in his thinking; he'd always made Serah feel some type of way to re-think her status as an Angel, when he himself was the Devil!!
4. Peter Van Houten from The Fault in Our Stars
"Listen here, douchepants, there's nothing that you can tell me about my disease that I don't already know!! Now I came here for one thing and one thing only; for you to tell me what happens at the end of this goddamn book!!"
GO OFF HAZEL GRACE!! I just love that quote telling her former fave author off!! As well as a best friend becoming an enemy, I think another worst part of any villain is one who you'd thought was a hero. A hero that you'd looked up to and always counted on, like the way Hazel Grace felt about her idol, Peter. Even when Peter had told her that he couldn't finish the second book of Emperial Affliction, he insulted Hazel's disease as a crutch to get what they wanted. Total a-hole!!
3. Jeanine from Divergent/Insurgent
In the first two books, Jeanine went from an advisor in Erudite, to a complete control-freak who had wanted to use Tris to control it even more. I'm glad that Four's mom Evelyn was the one to kill her, even though Evelyn was just as bad as Jeanine.
2. Valentine from Mortal Instruments
I know there was also a movie-version of Valentine, played by Jonathan Rheys-Meyers, but Alan Van Spring plays a much more dangerous version in the TV show. He's more like a politician than a screaming, yelling whining version lol.
1. Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter
The baddest of the bad!! Who else would kill a young wizard's parents, start an army, split his soul into seven pieces and put them into hidden objects, destroy people's lives, inflict pain and fear into people's hearts? No one but Voldemort!!
Special Addition: The Volturi Clan from Twilight
When you threaten the Cullen family, not once, not twice but three times, you're not just pure evil, you're a pain in the neck. (pun intended!!)
Those are my top 10 villians!! Let me know which villians you love to hate in the comments below.
