#T5W TOP 5 WEDNESDAY: HIDDEN GEMS IN YA FANTASY/CONTEMPORARY

For those who don't know what Top 5 Wednesday is, it's a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.

Created by Lainey from GingerReadsLainey and now hosted by Samantha from ThoughtsonTomes, this week's entry describes the top 5 hidden gems in YA fantasy and contemporary, my favorite reading genres.

January 31st: Hidden Gems in Your Favorite Genre
--What are some of your favorite books in your favorite genre that don't get a lot of hype?

3. STARFISH by Akemi Dawn Bowman - I've talked about this book a few times before, especially in my review, but this book still is incredible. Not only does it showcase great writing, imagery, diversity (Kiko, the main character is Japanese-American and has social anxiety), but it also demonstrates the use of visual arts to display experiences. I'm not a visual artist nor am I Japanese-American, but reading this novel put me in the perspective of  someone who may be going through similar situations as Kiko.

2. UNREALITY (MARKED BY FATE) by Ingrid Seymour - I've only read one book in the Marked by Fate box set, but Unreality was a really good gem to check out. Plus, I still think Ingrid is highly underrated as an author.

. ANOMALY and ENIGMA by Tonya Kuper
- If you know me and my blog at all, you know how much I love Anomaly and Tonya Kuper!! I've been rocking with her ever since Anomaly, the first book in the Schrodinger's Consortium series, came out in 2014. Pretty much every "hidden gem/underrated fave" post has a spotlight dedicated to Tonya's book because it's just that damn good!! If you love science fiction, fantasy, action, romance, family drama, unapologetic nerds, then this is the series for you!
