New Babies, Dewey's 24 Hour #Readathon, Visiting NYC on Easter and More | APRIL 2018 WRAP-UP

In Real Life (IRL)

It's been kind of a wild month for me, personally! My older sister just recently had her third child, a daughter, another girl to add to her already huge family, on April 18. But before then, I met my sister's fiancé for the first time; they live in Texas and flew to NJ for their baby shower during the weekend. I was pretty nervous to meet him because I'm sure he's been told much about me, and I know nothing about him, other than what my mom has told me on the phone. But he was so nice, really funny and a down-to-earth, chill guy. Considering how dramatic my sister can get, it helps that she's found someone who can help balance that out.

The baby shower almost didn't happen because my sister, her fiancé, and my mother got into a car accident the night before, on the way home! It's a very long story, but basically, this drunk idiot literally rammed into my mother's car and skid them into a Quick-Chek parking lot. It wasn't a hit-and-run, but I could only imagine how that could have felt. No one was seriously injured or died, but my mom had chest pains, mostly due to the airbags deploying in the car and her seatbelt contracting into her body. I was on my way home from work when I'd gotten the calls from my mom and sister and I was so worried on how they were doing, how the baby was doing. I stayed on the phone with them all night until morning; they all came out ok. My mom is still having chest pains, she can't carry anything over a certain amount of weight, but other than that, she's doing better. My sister and her then-unborn baby were okay, as was her fiancé.

At the time, we thought about cancelling the baby shower (after spending so much time, energy, money, etc. planning it), but we'd decided to just go on ahead and have it anyway. It was fun and cute and gave us some time to at least distract ourselves from the scary disaster of the accident.

But then the baby was born!!! She was born a premature baby like I was, only she's a little more thicker than I was. If you've seen my baby pics, you'll see me all shrimpy, scrawny, purple and pink, barely breathing, because I was literally the size of an egg! I was that small! But my new baby niece is a little bigger, and my family has been sending me pics, and I already can't wait to see her in person later next month.

On the more positive side, my new friend and I visited NYC on Easter Sunday on our own! I don't travel into the city very often, and when I do, it's with someone else who knows the city more than I do. We'd left early during the day and took the train to the Sugar Factory, had lunch and these huge goblet drinks that turn into smoky colors when alcohol is inserted. So amazing! We also went to the Line Friends Store in Manhattan, where they played nothing but BTS on their radio and I almost died in ARMY Heaven! My new friend didn't know who BTS were, so I had to do a crash course on the Bangtan Boys. We also got to see the BIG-ASS BEAR!! The beloved, famous bear that everyone in NYC keeps talking about lol. But yes, my trip to the city was so much fun and adventurous.

So yeah, that has been my month on a personal level: just being a witness to near-catastrophes and babies being born.

It's been an okay month for me on blogging.

Weekly Prompts

Book Blogger Hop Here are all of my BBH posts from this month. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Top 5 Wednesday - I had a good time doing April's prompts for T5W, and I even participated in my first Owlcrate unboxing for Shadows and Secrets! The Owlcrate box was really fun, and I hope to do it again soon.

Top Ten TuesdayOriginal host Jamie from Broke and Bookish brought it back for awhile one last time, before ending her blog as a whole and passing the torch to Lana from That Artsy Reader Girl to continue the series.

Book Reviews and Blog Tours, Discussions

I didn't participate in any blog tours or reviews this month, but I was nominated for the 2018 Sunshine Blogger Awards by Anthony @ Keep Reading Forward.

I also wrote two Discussion posts: my favorite writing resources and the Time & Place Book Tag while talking about why books are important in my life.

Coming Up Next Month

Some blog tours I signed up for but haven't officially confirmed for the spots yet.
  • Xpresso Tours' Reviews-Only Tour Spot: Nocturnal Meetings of the Misplaced by R.J. Garcia (May 9)
  • Xpresso Tours' Re-Release Blitz: Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson (May 10 - even though I already read this book several times, I'll still support it to the fullest because it's so so good!)
  • Xpresso Tours' Blitz: The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde (May 22)
Some NetGalley review requests.
  • Song of Blood and Stone by L. Penelope
  • Breakthrough by Kris Bryant
During the last week of May until early June, I'll be going to Texas with my mom to visit my sister and her family for my younger niece's high school graduation. So if I'm not writing or posting much of anything, that's why. I'm excited to see them, since I haven't seen them in forever. However, knowing how dramatic my family can get, I'm already counting down the days on when I can come back home lol.

How was your April? I'd love to know in the Comments below!
